Summer is here which means hungry kids home all day! So, turn “I’m hungry” all day long, this list of healthy snack ideas are sure to keep even your hungriest kiddies happy all summer long.

Here  are our favorite (and easiest) snack ideas . . . Enjoy!

Fresh Fruit and Cheese Kabobs

These kabobs are the perfect combination of fresh fruit and some protein from the cheese cubes. And, kids love eating anything on a stick. So many choices of fruit and cheese - they will have a ball making them!

Watermelon on a Stick

Slice a whole watermelon into 1/2- inch slices. Cut each slice into quarters. Use a paring knife to make a small slit through the watermelon rind and insert a wooden craft (popsicle) stick.

Ingredients:

  • Thick cut watermelon slices
  • Kiwi
  • Pineapple
  • Blueberries
  • Orange slices
  • Shredded coconut

Directions:

  1. Cut a thick slice of watermelon into wedges
  2. Top with fresh fruits
  3. Sprinkle with shredded coconut
  4. Refrigerate until serving time


Frozen Trail Mix Yogurt Bars

Frozen Trail Mix Yogurt Bars

Ingredients:

  • 32 oz container vanilla low-fat or Greek yogurt
  • 1 to 1.5 cups of chopped fruit 
  • 1 cup granola
  • ½ to ¾ cup sliced almonds
  • ½ cup to 1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:

    Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Line a 9x9 casserole dish with tinfoil. Spread the yogurt mixture inside the dish. Freeze until frozen & firm. Remove the frozen yogurt bars from dish by pulling the tinfoil out. Slice into bars, store in the freezer.

    Ingredients:

    • Mini peppers
    • Cream cheese (try garlic and herb)
    • 1 large carrot


    Apple Slice Sandwiches

    Apple Slice Sandwiches

    Ingredients: 
    • 2 small apples, cored and cut crosswise into 1/2-inch thick rounds
    • 1 teaspoon lemon juice, optional
    • 3 tablespoons peanut or almond butter
    • 2 tablespoons semisweet chocolate chips
    • 3 tablespoons granola
    Directions: 
    If not eating immediately, brush the apples slices with lemon juice to keep them from turning brown. Spread one side of half of the apple slices with peanut or almond butter then sprinkle with chocolate chips and granola. Top with remaining apple slices, pressing down gently to make the sandwiches. Transfer to napkins or plates and serve.

    Beach Day Pudding Cups

    Beach Day White Chocolate Pudding Cups

    Ingredients:

    • Small plastic cups
    • 2 boxes of white chocolate pudding
    • blue food coloring
    • vanilla wafers
    • Teddy Grahams
    • Swedish Fish
    • round peppermints

      Directions:

        1. Start by filling a food processor halfway with vanilla wafers and finely grind or us zip bag and rolling pin
        2. Fill each cup 1/4 with wafer crumbs
        3. Prepare pudding as directed
        4. Add about 6 drops of blue food coloring to your prepared pudding and stir well
        5. Fill each cup the remainder of the way with blue pudding
        6. Add two Teddy Grahams, one Swedish Fish, and one round peppermint (beach ball) to the top of each pudding cup
        7. Refrigerate until ready?

        Ham Pinwheels

        Spread scallion cream cheese on a sun-dried-tomato tortilla and top with thinly sliced ham. Roll up the tortilla and cut into 1/2-inch pieces.



        Healthy Ice Cream Sandwiches

        Healthy Ice Cream Sandwiches

        These ice cream sandwiches are very simple to make and the kids can have lots of fun coming up with their own variations.  To make the “ice cream” simply blend up 2 ripe, frozen bananas in your blender or food processor until it turns soft and creamy {like a soft served ice cream texture}.  Spoon the mixture between 2 graham crackers, dip in sprinkles and place in the freezer for approximately 20-30 minutes {makes 6 sandwiches}.

        Cereal Trail Mix

        This delicious snack is packed with fruity flavors and a mixture of salty and sweet surprises! Perfect for a pack-and-go snack.

        Ingredients:

        • 1 bag (8.75 oz) Chex Mix™ honey nut sweet & salty snack mix
        • 11/2 cups Trix™ cereal 
        • 1 cup Cheerios™ cereal 
        •  4 pouches (0.8 oz each) Mott’s™ assorted fruit snacks (from 8-oz box)

        Directions:

        In large bowl, mix all ingredients. Toss to mix just before serving. Store in covered container.
